Going Viral IRL
VidCon’s largest sponsor, YouTube, partnered with the AArrow Sign Spinners to create viral moments in real life. “The VidCon Team strives to take that world that exists only in our devices and in our heads and make it exist in the real world for a little while,” says Hank Green, the founder of VidCon.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing an AArrow Sign Spinner on your local intersection, then there’s a chance you may have seen one in viral videos on your favorite social media platforms. The opportunity to see and interact with a sign spinner was part of the experience provided by the YouTube Drop Shop and VidCon.
From Street Corner to VidCon
The AArrow Sign Spinners have a reputation for increasing traffic on the streets while simultaneously entertaining the masses. In a competitive market place, businesses often utilize sign spinners to stand out and gain an edge over their competitors. The attention economy is no different. Sometimes, it takes some good old fashioned sign spinning to stand out in a technological future. Enter the sign spinners.
Rather than directing traffic to a point of purchase, the spinners were directing attendees to the YouTube Drop Shop. Guests would be assigned an amount of faux currency from the “Slay T M” to exchange for various novelties and experiences within the shop.
Live Impromptu Creator Collaborations
While sign spinners entertained those waiting in line to enter the Drop Shop, others waited their turn to collaborate and capture content with a sign spinner. Talent included four-time world champion Kadeem Johnson, “the best sign spinner in LA” Christian Altamirano, and Twitch affiliate Kevin Williams, AKA OGDarkSora.
The AArrow Sign Spinners are a camera’s best friend. They have been the focal point of numerous cameras from pedestrians and passengers. Christian has been previously featured in media from music videos such as “Something More,” by Danz CM, Steve TV Show, and local newsprint. Kadeem has curated a portfolio of music video features, commercials, and numerous world championships and top 10 finishes. Kevin has also collaborated with other content creators on YouTube such as Hannah Stocking, and claimed some commercial screen time too.
