SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) –

You see them spinning their signs all over town. And despite these dangerously hot temperatures, these guys say there’s nothing else they’d rather do.

“In our case, we’re ready for the job. We work in the heat, practice in the heat as it is, so when we do get our shift, we’re mentally and physically prepared to work, and enjoy it every time,” said Mark Montellano, a “spinstructor” with AAROW advertising. Company management recognizes the dangers of working in the heat and works to ensure their employees’ well-being.

“We make sure they have frozen water, we make sure that they’re taking their breaks at their scheduled times so that they have time to go back, take a break in the shade, rehydrate, go inside, get some air conditioning, we want to make sure that their safety is number one,” said AAROW Owner Nick Teschler.

Whether it’s 115 degrees or 60 degrees, for some of these spinners, it isn’t just a job. Some consider it training for various sign spinning competitions. And they say working in this heat better prepares them.

AAROW sign spinner Austyn Baltimore added, “It’s a sport and a job and a hobby. It’s everything. It’s so fun.”
