The world’s best sign spinners – yes, those people who bring advertising to life on street corners, especially during tax time – will strut, er, spin their stuff this weekend in downtown Las Vegas.

The World Sign Spinning Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at the Fremont Street Experience.

While sign spinning is far from an Olympic sport, the folks at Aarrow Sign Spinners, the San Diego company that sponsors the event, have trained more than 1,000 people in what they consider a true athletic endeavor.

Roughly 100 people will participate in the event, which may make the spinner on your local sidewalk look like a rank amateur.

Sending signs skyward with signature styles and moves is only part of the performance. Some of the contestants will entertain the crowd as they, too, become airborne. The acrobatic performances will be judged by a panel of experts.
